Create a (sub)group with limited access for a Praktikum, but use of templates

Dear all,

Our research group hosts a practical work with students. We want them to use openBIS to document. They should have access to our inventory of methods and materials and to (a few of) our forms for experimental steps as well as the templates.

I don’t want to add them to our group because we share power user access to all our spaces. I created a group for those students and granted read access to our inventories. That works great. I also removed the groups’ inventories. Works great, too. So it’s less confusing, only one list of inventories.

They also all share one space. This works great (suppress creation of spaces in user management, then give power user access to a common space).

However, the templates and choice of experimental steps do not work. They only see the standard openBIS experimental steps (not those that we created) and the template list is empty. What I did is, giving them read access to our groups’ ELN settings (but keeping their groups’ ELN settings as well with read access).

Is there a more clever way to achieve this? Like copying templates and objects between groups or something else?

Thanks for any help or hints on how you do this…

Hi Thorsten,

as discussed today, a group only see what is defined in their group settings. Giving access to other groups’ settings will not have any effect.
The ELN General settings apply to Spaces that do not belong to any group.

Templates are Objects that can be exported from the Settings of one group and imported back in openBIS via the Object Browser in the ELN, after changing the identifier, space, project, experiment codes to match the group settings where they need to be imported.

Best
