Vocabulary terms in XLS Batch Registration - Who would need that too?

Dear openBIS users.

Topic: Batch register/update objects - Excel file Template - Vocabulary terms:

Many of our users complain that they do not know what to write and how to write it for colums with a controlled vocabulary (in the Excel template). Looking terms up in the Vocabulary Browser is considered very cumbersome. We would like it if a list of all terms of a vocabulary would be somewhere in the Excel template so that one knows what to select from?

Question: Who else would be interested in this? The more people who sign up, the greater the chance that it could be implemented!

Best regards Viktoria

Our users also complain about this.
We would be interested!

Hi,
We use a custom excel template where we have a vocabulary sheet with the vocabularies of the different attributes. In that way, the user can choose allowed attributes in the drop-down menu in the sample sheet.
When the user has filled in all sample entries, they simply export it as a “flat” .tsv file and imports the .tsv to openBIS.
This solution is maybe not very delicate, and vocabularies need to be manually added / removed if there are any updates to the sample types in openBIS - but it kind of does the job and makes the registration process a bit less painful.

Please give a shout to my mail: filip.arman@med.lu.se if you want the the template we use, and then you can adjust it to fit your sample model.

Best,

Filip

Hello Filip.

Sorry for the late reply and thank you for sharing your solution.

We are a multi-group instance with a large number of groups. Some of our groups have already created such templates. But yes, as you said, maintaining such templates involves a lot of effort. That’s why we thought of a solution within the software itself. It would at least make things a lot easier.

Best,

Viktoria
