openBIS in accredited labs

Dear openBIS users,

we are currently evaluating if openBIS is suitable for use in a laboratory that is pursuing DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Are you aware of any labs that have either sought or already successfully obtained 17025 accreditation (or any other comparable accreditation) while using openBIS?

Any experiences / ideas are really appreciated.

Best,

Luca

Dear Luca,

I am an expert for ISO17025 accreditation. OpenBIS functionality is fully in line with the ISO 17025 requirements. But so far I have not seen it in any accredited laboratory. Commercial labs use specialist LIMS systems, which are adjusted to each accredited SOP and parameter.

It is possible to also do it in openBIS, but it background is more in basic and applied research, where methods are developed. Of course then you can run them on a routine level.

It is definitely a matter of cost to set both type of systems up, which could be very expensive. And then the running cost, which could be considerable for commercial systems due to license fees

Best,

Matthias
