Copy field content from parent to children (with a script)

Hi all,

maybe someone out there has a solution for this. I understand that children can not inherit the values of their parents. However, I often still create children to an experimental step for measurement with all but one setting the same. I leave the identical settings in the child empty - to type less. (experiments are too dynamic to cover this with templates, or with dynamic properties).

After the experiment, to be able to filter more convinient, I would like to copy all settings that are empty in the children from the parents (or a selection of values). Is this possible with a script?

since you speak of filtering, I would think that the right solution is implementing a proper filter or using an advanced search to search for object by their children properties. This seems more robust and elegant than duplicating information with the risk of losing referential integrity
