I have a question regarding the best way to organize sample objects, measurements and data objects in OpenBIS for a larger institute. We are considering what is the best way to balance an open science approach, enabling and simplifying collaboration and data reuse, and on the other hand the need for restricted access for some industry projects, the wish to have all project relevant data together and maybe also desire for privacy.
Would you have a central space with a sample inventory and link data to the sample in different spaces/projects? Or is it better to have all the information from one project together in personal or group-wide projects?
How do other institutes with research and central service measurements handle their data?
Any input and experiences very much appreciated. Feel free to contact me directly as well for a private chat. Thanks!

Dear Julia,

If you like we can have an exchange about the openBIS setup at Empa, you can also find some information about Scientific IT at Empa and our openBIS part here online: [openBIS at Empa | Empa Scientific IT](https://scientificit.empa.ch/documentation/openbis/)

The next international (Swiss & German) community meeting will be online on Friday 4.12 and it would be a good opportunity if you would like to present your case to the community and ask for some input/exchange there, what do you say?

best,

Anusch
